PROFILE
Born in the Bronx
to Jamaican singer Jimmy Riley
and Lavern Tatham, it was only
natural that Omar “Tarrus”
Riley grew up surrounded by music
and was motivated to express himself
through music. After spending
a summer in Jamaica, where the
dancehall scene heavily influenced
him, he spent the next few years
in Miami, writing with Anthony
Cruz and Kashief Lindo, and performed
the DJ portion of his first release,
“Share”on a duet with
Kashief.
Tarrus continued
in the DJ vein for several more
years, releasing “Bed of
Roses”, a duet with his
father, “Wickedness Caan
Dun”, “Nowadays Things
Change”, and “Chop
It Off”. At a Miami studio,
he recently explained how he went
from being a DJ to a singer, after
a period of touring as background
vocalist and playing the kette
drums with Lavaska and Kymani
Marley.
The release of my
latest vocal single, Barber Chair”
was well received and now I’m
getting ready to release my first
album, “Challenges”.
The influence of
such great figures as Bob Dylan,
Stevie Wonder, The original Wailers
and Jimmy Riley, have motivated
Tarrus to write his own songs
His topics are emotional so maybe
you can see yourself in one of
his verses. As he expresses it,
“Emotions all people feel,
man woman and child, all color
class or creed. Art imitates life,
with some pain, some happiness.
Variety is the spice of life but
you must have moderation or you
burn up. I just write of the things
I go through and the things I
see other people go through”,
said the artist, Tarrus Riley.
