PROFILE
Born on the 3rd
day of August to Jamaican born
Daniel G. Roper, his Father and
Gladys A. Ardines Roper, his Mother,
a native Panamanian. Growing up
in Panama, Abaddon's first language
became Spanish as his mother taught
her children to speak only Spanish
while they were very young. From
an early age, Abaddon had an affinity
foe music and would imitate great
crooners of Spanish music such
as Ismael Rivera, Gran Combo,
Ruben Blades, Celia Cruz, Benny
Moore, and of course, his Mother,
Mrs. Gladys Roper who possessed
a great natural singing ability.
Abaddon's desire to learn to speak
English grew when he heard releases
from Calypso singers like Lord
Cobra, Mighty Sparrow, and later
on Fats Domino, The Jackon Five,
Barry White, and of course, Bob
Marley. He came to America in
the 1970's to better his life.
He studied music at a school no
longer in existence, formerly
located at Bedford Avenue and
Lincoln Place in Brooklyn called
the "Muse School of Arts".
He then continued his music studies
with Professor Trevor Johns at
Medgar Evers College in Brooklyn
where he learned to play guitar
and to read and write music. After
writing his first two songs, "The
Bluefoot Girls" and "Pregnant
History", Abaddon's interest
broadened to live performance.
He started with small groups like
"Shades of Color" and
"The Wassin Band". As
his confidence grew, he went on
to perform at a Peace Concert
held at Medgar Evers College alongside
celebrities such as Woodstock's
Richie Havens and Phantom, an
eloquent and dynamic group from
Haiti. He appeared briefly at
the Ampitheater of Medgar Evers
as well as The Apollo Theater
and local clubs in Brooklyn and
Lower MAnhattan. Then he withdrew
from the performance scene once
again to compose a new set of
songs; this time the Traditional
Style Reggae genre of Roots and
Culture. As a songwriter, singer,
guitarist and live performer,
Abaddon 9:11 (Nine Eleven) intends
to share his life experiences,
revelations and memories with
music lovers world wide with the
deliverance of his first album
BURNING COALS; a mix of Roots
Vibration, Blues and Rock in a
bilingual format. Abaddon's most
profound musical influence has
come from the high caliber sounds
of artists the likes of Bob Marley
and The Wailers, Steel Pulse,
and Dennis Brown to name just
a few. Choosing to play the guitar
in order to compose was an instant
and unforeseen decision, which
proved most comfortable and productive
for this spiritually motivated
artist. With a fervent desire
for truth and love for humanity,
Abaddon has benefitted from the
help and inspiration of many fine
musicians and singers from multi-cultural
origins and thus perceived that
indeed, opportunity does knock
and he is ready to walk through
the door. With the help and support
of his fellow musicians, listeners,
club owners and radio personalities,
Abaddon's spirit is highly motivated
and his belief in the success
of his music is humble yet strong.
The release of his first CD will
indeed be the fruition of a dream
come to pass as truth. His plan
is to return to The Apollo Theater
Stage, no longer be a solo performer,
but triumphantly, ABADDON and
THE NEW VIBRATION. May God Bless
You who read this brief biography
and may you have Peace that passes
all understanding. Ache, Ache,
Ache (pronounced "Ashay")
