Guitarist, Songwriter, Vocalist,
Arranger, Composer and Lyricist.
Originally from the West Indian
Island of Dominica, Djaté
is best known for his years as lead
guitarist for the reggae band Culture,
and for his performances in back-up
bands for Dennis Brown, Leroy Sibbles,
Gregory Issacs, Mighty Diamond,
U Roy, Mikey Dread and others. He
played in local bands from New York
to Houston and Chicago to Florida
and opened shows for Third World,
The Wailers, Damian Marley, Black
Uhuru, Jimmy Cliff & Luky Dube
to name a few. Djaté has
written and composed a plethora
of original songs in several genres
besides reggae and recorded with
artists like Izzy Stradlin formerly
of Guns N’ Roses.
The soulful, funky, rock &
rolling sound of Djaté will
transport you to a tropical paradise.
Based in Boulder, Colorado, for
the last four years, the band has
been playing the Rockies hot spots,
such as the Foundry in Boulder,
Brendon’s in Denver, The Double
Diamond in Aspen, 8150 Club in Vail,
The Tugboat in Steamboat Springs,
Harry O’s in Park City, Blues
Bouquet in Boise, Whisky Jacques
in SunValley & Jackson Hole,
Wyoming.
Djaté has been honored with
a number of awards, among them Best
Male Vocalist from Martin International
Reggae, Best Cultural Band from
Cool Runnings Reggae Award,
Djaté won as finalist in
the prestigious world-wide John
Lennon Songwriting Contest with
his original songs Wanna Be Love
and Why Can’t We All Get Along.
He received an Honorable Mention
with the song If It’s Love
That You Want.
