Mr. Chin started his musical
career as a rapper in Danish underground
rap group Critical Basis
in the late eighties. Back then
he was known (under the name PART
B) as one of the best freestyle
rappers in Denmark. After winning
several underground rap battles
he was the first rapper in Denmark
ever to win the official Rapper
Of TheYear freestyle contest.
Being influenced by Reggae music
since childhood toasting has always
been a natural option in Mr. Chin´s
vocal register but not until hooking
up with Danish sound system Sky
Juice did he really get the chance
to prove his worth as a dee-jay.
Touring all around Scandinavia
with Sky Juice Sound System (which
primarily consists of Jamaican-Danes)
was like a school of Dancehall
to him, and it was also during
this time he was given his Dee-jay
name Mr. Chin by fellow Sky Juice
members.
Mr. Chin is half Japanese and
half Danish and credits artists
such as Clement Irie, Super Cat,
Lt. Stichie and Shabba Ranks as
heavy musical influences.
Dancehall music really caught
my interest when I heard the track
Roots Rap Reggae by Run DMC feat.
Yellowman back in ´86. I
ain´t never heard anything
like it before and I saw it as
the perfect mixture of the two
musical genres that I really loved.
I knew right away I had to learn
how to dee-jay² and Dancehall
has been inside of me ever since.²
When performing live Mr. Chin
is backed up by his partner in
